Comment Spam from India

Just say no to spamFirst of all, for you noob’s out there who know shit about blogging. Comment spam is when somebody leaves a comment on your blog post purely for the link in an effort to get better Google ranking. These are often easy to identify because they use keywords for their names and the comments have nothing to do with the post.

I want to know why in the fuck 90% of the comment spam that get I on my various blogs is from India? I get that India has but-loads of cheap labour, but I have been lead to understand that people from India are supposed to be smart. So by now these fucktards must have realised that if a comment has nothing what so fucking ever to do with the post, it will get deleted and you will probably be BanHammered for spamming. Is it so damn hard to add a bit of context?

I’m happy to give link juice to genuine commenter’s, and get a kick out of good comments. Challenge me, tell me my post was bloody brilliant, or tell me it was shit. Tell me if you think I’m talking out my ass, just don’t comment spam my blog and expect me not delete your comment

Update :  19 June 2011
I have found the I tend to get more comment spam on my blog posts that I have posted to digg .

  1. I’m pretty sure you must have something like this in place. But your post indicates that you delete spam comments manually.

I use http://akismet.com/ and it has kept my blog clean from rubbish. Why don’t you give this a try?

On another note, I must say that it is just the scales in play. The Indian population is over a billion. Yes there are smart people and like in every race you find the bad eggs. There are also that many more spammers. Just saying :)

    • Thanks for your comment,

Most of my blogs(except for this one) are in place for SEO reasons, so I use free blogging platforms. Don’t worry, I don’t write spammy blogs, they all have good valuable content. I’m also concerned that genuine comments might get caught as false positives, so I like to check the spam folder anyway.

Yep, you have a valid point, but by the flying fucks do they piss me off.

I use DISQUS for my blog as well as a few different services to track who all visits my blog (like FEEDJIT). One thing I notice is how certain blog hits only find my blog just because of the commenting system I use. Without sounding like I’m profiling, a majority of these spam comments come from India. For example, I get hits saying “(keyword/topic) powered by disqus,” and the comment is usually something semi-related but features some sort of spam link. So what I did was tighten up who actually can comment. Any other suspicious material gets shot down immediately, marked as spam, and eventually deleted.

    Good blog post, though!
